2 minute clear answer · Updated September 9, 2026

A night problem leaves clues in the daytime.

You may not hear yourself snore or notice a pause in breathing. You may only know that mornings hurt, focus is harder, or sleep never feels finished. Gather what you and another person notice, then ask for an evaluation before buying a test or device.

Bring the whole sleep picture

What happens at night

Note snoring, gasping, pauses, waking, dry mouth, or trouble staying asleep. With their permission, ask them to note what they noticed.

What happens during the day

Describe sleepiness, headaches, focus, and any safety concern such as struggling to stay awake while driving.

What happens after a test

Before paying, ask who orders it, where it happens, who reads it, and when the result becomes a care plan.

What makes the next visit useful

Bring what another person notices

If someone has heard loud snoring, gasping, or pauses in breathing, write it down. Also note morning headaches, dry mouth, and daytime sleepiness.

Ask what kind of evaluation comes first

A clinician reviews symptoms and health history before deciding about testing. This guide cannot tell whether you have sleep apnea.

Price the test separately

Ask whether testing would happen at home or in a sleep center, who reads it, and what each part costs. Confirm the return process for any borrowed equipment.

Make the result lead somewhere

Before testing, ask who explains the result and what the follow-up visit costs. Save the order, result, and next appointment together in Kiplet.
